The Wild Wonders of Northumberland

The Wild Wonders of Northumberland

Recently, I had the pleasure to create an illustrated map for the Camping and Caravanning Club featuring an area near my home town in the North East. An area I remember exploring as a child on various school trips and family days out, it was a trip down memory lane illustrating Hadrian's Wall along the Tyne Valley.

People who have visited Northumberland will know how wild and expansive the landscape is, scattered with old stone walls, forests and wide, barren hills. Of course, you don't get far without encountering some lovely sheep - I made sure to include these guys in this illustration. Newcastle Upon Tyne brings an element of modernity and vibrancy to the area, while Corbridge and Haltwhistle exaggerate its ancient roots.

Somewhere I have yet to explore, but have heard much about, is The Sill - National Landscape Discovery Centre. This new centre showcases exhibitions, history and science associated with Northumberland. There's always something going on, and its excellent name is an indication to the fascinating edge of volcanic rock that runs across Northumberland.

This illustration is now available as a standard print, featuring towns and villages throughout the Tyne Valley with further details and a lovely green effect.
